The ability to provide customized surface treatments is one of FOMA's strengths. Thanks to our long experience and established partnerships, we are able to respond to specific technical and aesthetic needs of our customers, offering solutions that improve the durability and appearance of products in various industries.

Here are the main treatments we can handle on request:

Polishing: Perfect for achieving smooth, reflective surfaces, polishing is ideal when seeking to improve the aesthetic appearance of metals while providing additional protection against wear and tear. This treatment finds wide application in the decorative and industrial sectors.

Satin-finishing: Unlike polishing, satin-finishing gives a matte and uniform finish, reducing surface reflections and giving a more refined appearance. This treatment is in high demand for products that require elegance and durability.

Barrel or frame nickel plating: Nickel plating is one of our core competencies and is used both for corrosion protection and to improve aesthetics. Barrel nickel plating is suitable for lightweight, small and generally large-volume components, while frame nickel plating is perfect for larger parts or complex geometries where sometimes more thickness is needed. Both techniques provide homogeneous and durable coverage.

Chemical nickel plating: Through an autocatalytic process without the use of electricity, chemical nickel plating ensures uniform coverage even on irregular or complex surfaces such as in deep but very small diameter holes. This technology is particularly valued for improving wear resistance and surface hardness, as well as providing optimal protection against corrosion.

Chrome plating: We offer both chrome plating with hexavalent chromium (Cr VI), which provides bright and durable finishes, and the more sustainable chrome plating with trivalent chromium (Cr III). The latter solution, increasingly in demand for environmental and safety reasons, maintains high aesthetic and protective performance while reducing environmental impact.

What has changed since September 21? In the chrome plating industry, chromium trioxide (CrO₃) has always played a key role in ensuring high-quality decorative finishes and corrosion resistance. However, with the implementation of European REACH regulations, its use has become increasingly restricted due to its impact on health and the environment.

The use of chromium trioxide is permitted today and will continue to be permitted after September 21, 2024 to all companies as long as it is supplied by one of the CTACSub members and provided they do so in accordance with the Good Practice Sheets for uses of Chromium Trioxide and Miscellaneous Chromates, which can be downloaded here.

Galvanizing: A basic corrosion protection treatment, particularly effective for components intended for outdoor environments or subject to harsh weather conditions. Galvanizing ensures long life of metal components due to its resistance to weathering.

Burnishing: Used primarily to achieve a dark, uniform finish on metals, burnishing is ideal for improving aesthetics and corrosion resistance. This treatment is used for both decorative and functional purposes.

We are ready to respond to every need, offering tailored treatments that combine functionality and design. Contact us to find out how we can improve your products.
